Growing Food Inside the Tank:

I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to grow/raise a natural food source for small to medium sized fish inside the tank.

It depends on the fish, if they eat algae then you could but many other things like fish or shrimp youll need to have them in a different tank. They would eat them so fast they wouldnt be able to reproduce

I grow algae on purpose for my African cichlids so they can graze all day. They do a good job of cleaning everything. Then I grow more just by leaving the lights on for 12-13 hours a day for a week or so. Just gotta keep the glass clean and I get a nice green algae growing.

They seem happy with it.
