Ok today i got rid of my goldfish and my betta that were in my aquarium. So today i went out and bought some fish i bought a male and female dalmation molly which the female was already pregnant. And i bought a male and female baloon molly which the female was pregnant too. Soo to get to the point i want to know what i can do to prevent the babies from getting sucked into my filters. I was thinking of taking a filter poad and cutting it and sewing it back to make sorthve a slip on for the pipe that sucks the water into the filter. And it is a hang on filter by the way. I wont really worry about the water flow because i have two filters running at the same time. And im not even using att the power it is capable of so i dont make too much water current i am just thinking that all the poop that usually gets sucked up is gonna stay in the aquarium instead of getting sucked up. I would really appreciate it if somebody would help me out on this the babies are due very soon and will arive even sooner because my water temperature is very high arounf 85.
Thank you : )

Covering the filter intake is a good idea. You could also do this with old stockings. That shouldn't reduce the water flow as much as a piece of filter pad.
If you feed your mollies well enough then you shouldn't see any problems with them eating their fry either. Don't overfeed because of this! :p
You could always get a breeding net to hang into your tank. They're cheap, and are sure to keep your babies safe.

HTH!

OK So let me get this straight. You have to get rid of the fry, or else you'll have to get rid of them?

Did you think about that one before you posted it? :p

Actually, I think he was saying don't worry about making sure you raise your fry to maturity unless you have something to do with them. Allowing fry to be eaten is a much better option than having more breeding adults than you know what to do with.

Ok see the thing is i want to let the fry grow and i want to seperate male and female . i dont know what age they are sexable but when they are they can be sexed by the fin under the belly i forgot what it is called for a male. but the female doesnt have it lol. Oh and i can keep some too because i am getting a 55 gallon soon. And for the rest of the fish i will give some to my friend . he has like 11 goldfish in a 30 gallon aquarium and the water is dangerously out of balance. i am telling him to get rid of the gold fish and he can have some of mine. The rest i will just give them for free to the petstore or a lil money doesnt really matter. Im not breeding to sell. So after reading the replies i tried cutting 2 squares of filter pad and taking the filter extention off because the water level is high enough without it . i stuck the filter pad into the tube but not fulyl so it doesnt suck it up so i can take it out when doing a pwc. Im just concerned about the filteration because i have 2 filters runnung so the water filtered every hour should be fine but the poop and all that stuff cant get sucked into the filters which is bad ,so i dont know what to do. and good chance most of the fry would get sucked in because i have filters on both side of the aquarium. which is good and bad. Good becuase better filteration. Bad because heavy water flow. : ( can decide what to do. can frys

2-3 months of age ^^ Males have a long stick like fin under their bodies(anal fin i think it is?) lol the females look more like a fin. (don't ask me to get into specific names...)

good idea 8O goldfish + mollies = not good!

I just had a little of molly fry born and I just put them in a separate tank because my fish eat the fry or they just died(Two survived the whole day I was at work, so I'm letting them live since they survived a whoe crap load of fish and not being eaten 8O ).

Good luck with your fry! hth!

just vacume your gravel (carefully so you don't snatch any fry) on a weekly basis and I think you will be okay. Of course, this depends on the size of the tank, which I am assuming to be larger than 10 gallons because you are planning on growing out fry, and the amount of fish that will be in that tank.
