I'm still cycling, and I've had some snails that I'm pretty sure were pond snails pop up that I've been killing when I see (I'm not going to let pests ruin my plants).

Does anyone have an idea as to what kind of snail this is? I've seen it removing the brown algae from my plants, but I have no idea what kind it is. It's got a clear shell, and of course is growing at a decent rate.

Sorry for the horrible picture, but my camera doesn't have a manual focus.

TIA for the help.

I can try, but like I said I don't have a manual focus.

It looks like a ramshorn shell, but its clear.

Clear or not, its the shape that matters. I have some pond snails in my planted tank (grrr) that are clear. If it looks like a ramshorn, it's a ramshorn. :)

So are ramshorn a bad thing or not? I've got really high nitrites right now due to cycling (my nitrite test turns purple instantly without waiting the 5 minutes) and algae and cyano are having their way with my tank as a result.

Will ramshorns eat live plant matter, or do they tend to stick with dead and decaying plants and/or algae?
