Neons getting stuck to filter inlet

Have young, small neons and every few days I find one sucked up against the inlet. I have saved a couple & for a couple it has been too late. Any way I can prevent this from happening. They're just not strong enough to get away.
 
You could try putting some kind of mesh over the inlet that will keep out the fish, but will still allow debris to be sucked up.
 
Haha, yeah. Whenever I had molly babies, I used an air driven filter that wasn't too powerful with a little bit of mesh over it. The filter wasn't top notch, but it worked well for a small tank with small fish.
