New fish food

I bought New Life Spectrum Thera A and I gave it to the fish, but the cardinal tetras didn't really get a lot cuz they either spit it out or the 2 platys ate most of it as it didn't sink fast enough and because they're pigs, lol. Also, it seems really tiny and I think I should have bought the 1mm size as the flakes and the freeze dried bloodworms I was feeding the fish were a lot bigger and they did fine with those. I fasted the fish for 4 days in hopes that by the time their new food came in they would be hungry enough to eat it. Will they eventually eat it? Also, should I separate the platys from the cardinals so the cardinals get a chance to eat?

When using a new food, please remember to mix it in with some of your old food. And slowly make the transition. Did you buy the .5mm size? 1mm could be rough on the cardinals.
