We just got ourselves a 10gal. I currently have a 5.5 gal established tank. I threw in some of my filter media into the new tank. Does this take away the need to cycle the tank?

great. one more quick question. Does anyone know where I can find a chart which labels the acceptable levels for all water parameters. I always get confused as to what is good and what is not  .

You don't need a chart. Basically you MUST have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and up to about 30 ppm nitrates is safe.

If you ahve anything other than 0 ammonia and nitrites, then there is a problem with the cycle. Hope that helps!

The chart should have came with your test kit.
That's true.
Basically you want nitrites and ammonia the lowest color possible and nitrates are okay to about 40 ppm. I don't use CO2.
