pH of Tank

I did a 50% water change this morning because my nitrite was high. The pH of the water I put in was 7.4 and the pH of my tank is 8.0 does this make sense and is it okay? Also is 0.25ppm nitrite harmful and how do I lower it? I have mollies in my tank.

Yes it’s normal because co2 in tap water is acidic. When it leaves the water after a while the pH goes up. pH value of 8.0 is perfectly fine, no need to worry. Lastly, nitrite of 0.25 is not toxic, though it should be 0 so a water change is always the best policy.
