Snail safety

I'm looking to get a snail but not sure about whether it will be safe with the substrate I'm using (in the photo). I'm afraid that it will scratch/cut the snails foot. The pebbles aren't sharp to the touch and are from a reputable brand.

Cheers.

If you keep snails: Common aquarium snails (sometimes referred to as “pest snails”) can be a benefit to your aquarium's gravel bed. Two of the three common types of snails found in aquariums — Physa and Trumpet snails – are known to burrow into the gravel, with trumpet snails being particularly enthusiastic burrowers.

My best consultant Guru Google seems to say gravel is fine per the quote above. Your substate looks like the large gravel I get from Pet Supplies Plus.

Rub some of the gravel over the palm of your hand and if it scratches, it's too rough for snails or bottom dwelling fishes.

My preference has always been pet store gravel instead of sand, and I have snails of all types. No one has been injured.
