I use an aquaclear 70 with a fluval prefilter sponge (plan on adding an extra media bag of matrix by seachem on top)

38g tank.
2 airstones.
Added java moss too two driftwood trees yesterday also.

I also tend to run a bit overstocked and also keep an air-driven sponge filter in each tank for extra bio capacity. I then have an extra filter to quickly move over to a new tank if I need seeded media in a hurry.
 
In a few of my tanks I'm now running a Hamburg Matten Filter with success. Handles huge bioloads with no maintenance. Especially good for fry and inverts.
