i bought a pangasius catfish from my lfs and the lady said it wwould be fine on its own, i have now discovered they need to be in groups and they grow pretty large and i only have a 38gl tank, its staying at one side of the tank near the filter swimming against the glass constantly any suggestions as to what is wrong, all paramiters are fine and my other fish are ok

It's probably stressed from the lack of size of the tank and lack of other members of it's species.

I have three ones I just got in my 125 gallon and they are growing fast! I have no idea what the hell I'm going to do with them in a few months to a year

My 3 catfish have extremely bloated bellies. Anyone know anything about this? Looks like they all are pregnant like guppies but how could that be? Could it just be they ate some fish and look extremely full.

Take it back to the store. They should take it back since they did not accurately tell you how big it gets.
