Sulking gourami

i just lost a dwarf gourami the other day. i dont know why, but my other one is eating a little and hiding alot, he seems to be healty. could this because the other one is gone?? i mean i heard some fish need to have a partner or be in schools. i also had this same thing happen a couple of months ago.

Do you know why the original gourami died. Maybe the second has the same affliction? Two dead gouramis in a couple moths makes it seem like something is up.
