Tank Cleaning?

When I am doing my water change each week should I always rinse out my sponge from my filter as well or should I not be doing that every week?

I usually only rinse mine out about once a month in the dirty tank water that I drain from the tank.
But thats just my opinion.

I think 1-2 x's a month would be sufficient IMHO.
