I have a ten gallon tank down stairs with some tiger barbs in it. I was wondering if i can put tigers in my 55g community tank. Any info would be great cause i am probably going to do it.

greetings.

tiger barbs are fin-nappers, i only had them once and they had napped a fin within a day, i've heard of some people sucessfully keeping them in larger community aquariums but the way that is done is having so many tiger barbs that they are only aggressive towards each other, i don't think 3 is enough for that.

It's hit or miss with the Angelfish. TB's have been known to nip their fins mercilessly, while also co-exist peacefully with Angels. I've read from both sides on this site. 3 TB's may be a problem, in small numbers they feel insecure in community tanks and nip other fish .. large finned or not. I'd up their number to at least 7 before putting them in that 55gal. In larger numbers they focus their aggression on each other more instead of tankmates.

Ok cool im going for it. I'll go get 4 more and see what happens. What i will do is put my neons down in the 10g all they do these days is hide behind my big rock you never see them until feeding time. Thanks everyone.

Good luck! My tigers were merciless! I had 15ish at one point. I ended up taking them out.

Oh yes ... they can be nasty ... hope the OP's TB's aren't too bad. I guess I lucked out with my TB's ... they've never nipped at any other Non-Barb ... though they did bully and stress two Albino TB's to the point where they didn't make it.

yea, keep an eye on them. they are supposed to do better in bigger schools. I had a group of tiger barbs actually kill a fish in a community I had.

A nice combination for your 55 gallon is...

A school of 8 Tiger Barbs, 1 redtail-black shark, 1 gourami.
It's a cool biotope setup.

In a BIG tank (over 100 gallons), Tiger Barbs and Clown Loaches are the ultimate combination!
They are from the same biotope and school together. It's really cool to watch.

Well everyone its been 24 hours since i switched my neons with my TB's. I can say that everything is going smooth for now. With that being said i think the fact that the TB's are the smallest fish in the tank is helping. I will try to keep everyone up to speed.

Hi, I have 6 tb's 3 gourami's and 1 rubberlip in a 40B. The tb's only mess /play/chase each other. They have been tankmates for 3 months and so far no fin nippin what so ever....I good luck with your tb's

I had them once before and they were horrible I'm a community tank! I returned them
They stressed out all my fish, terrorizing them all day. So I wouldn't put them in your community tank

Now that I have to start all over again (I am re-cycling my 29 gallon tank due to losing everything from Hurricane Sandy), I'd appreciate some good advice.

I'm wondering if Tiger Barbs and Cory's can co-exist? If yes, how many of the (2) species can I house in the 29 gallon set-up? And...which cory's would work best with the Tigers?

I never owned any Tigers, but I know they have an aggressive reputation.

I'd appreciate some input. Thanks.

Yeah make sure you have at least 6 cory cats and 7 TBs and you may be able to put a gourami with them if bio load allows. I would try for panda or juli cory cats they do great in aggressive tanks. I'm no cory cat specialist but I know for sure their are many that can work

I'm thinking about albino cory's. Would they work with the Tiger Barbs?

Oh yeah I love them my corys are only 2 inches, albino of course, so I think a school would be nice. Also u know different barbs will school together so you can go with like 3 greens, 3 tigers, and maybe 3 albinos too, but this is just me.
