In the early stages of my tank used flagstones (slate) and smaller smooth stones to make caves. Now I use softer materials like wood and still use the smaller stones. Your pleco will like to be concealed when in it's cave. I made a couple of different spots throughout my tank. It is a BN so won't get too big but I will have to adjust as he grows.

The selection of artificial structure at pet stores is limited. What size is your tank? You could try small ceramic flower pots.

Why not buy driftwood? I mean most plecos require driftwood as part of their diet. It will make your aquarium look more natural, and the pleco will benefit from it as well.

I would wait until you get your 29gal running and cycled. Then purchase a medium sized driftwood piece. It's a bit of work to get the tannins out of it, but it will be worth it at the end :)
