Fiddler Crab. So confused

I bought a fiddler crab and I was just temporarily keeping him in a 1 gallon with gravel and some brackish water. Today I finally had his habitat set up and I go to get him, only to discover he has molted?? I was told this shouldn't happen in the environment he was in???

you cant stop a crab from shedding. that's how they grow.

I'm aware, but I was told they only do in sand

Nah, they do it when they need to. Often it happens when getting new fresh water. They are delicate after molting so clean water is ideal and they usually hide some until they get hardened up.
