i live in Wyoming, the windiest state in the union, and i was wondering if anybody knows what i could do to protect my pond from turning to mud. the wind blows incessantly and the water just fills with dirt.
what are some things i could do? maybe someone knows some tricks

I live in a windy & dusty place too but I am in the city so its not as bad. I still get amazing rates of evaporation & tons of dead vegetative matter (including leaves) in my pond but not so much dirt. I do have a fence fairly close to the pond & have started planting trees & shrubs around it.

Maybe if you put in a largish bog garden with cattails or something around the edge it would slow down the wind enough to drop the dirt in the bog instead of the open water of the pond.

How big is your pond (can you give us a bit of a description)? Is the dirt coming from dust suspended in the air or blowing in from nearby? Is it at least on the leeward side of your house??
