I have a one year old painted turtle. Normally I feed him some shrimp pellets and have ghost shrimp for him to hunt. He does quit well with the shrimp and has grown a little (about 2" now") so I added about a dozen guppies to his tank. Tonight I caught him with one dead in his mouth. I don't know if he killed it or just grabbed it after it happened to die. Either way, he was freaking out! Swimming up and down on the glass. Then would stop, float, and start all over. Finally he just dropped it and just moved on. Should I be concerned? Are feeder fish okay if my turtle can't eat it in one bite? Is there something turtles do after a kill, like hide or dig? Ill check in the morning to see if the dead fish is gone.

You're fine, Turtles eat fish, even if the fish died on its own the turtle will find it before it fouls the water. But most likely the turtle nabbed the fish, cause that's what they do.
