50gal Setup

i want to start a 50gal coral reef tank but i don't know what kind of filter light or maybe make a refugium. any ideas? i want start it out right so i won't to spend money upgrading on equipment that i should have bought hte first time

You can have a succesful tank with a good heater, protein skimmer, LR(1.5-2lbs per gal), DSB(4-6inches), light and a refuge. A mechanical filter can be added but must be checked regularly to keep detritus from building up and the nitrates from getting out of control. The lighting will be the biggest choice and you will get many opinions. You need to decide on the ending occupants of the tank and can then make a better choice. I use 2x65 power compacts and keep several types of coral.
