I like the coralife super skimmers. Im not using one rt now but have had good success with it. I would
steer way clear of any skimmer/filter combo( sometimes called a skilter) or the seaclone skimmers.

Any one know a good protein skimmer fir my tank, Something that will fit my tank.

Hey Dave I would go with a hangon back skimmer. Because like me you are limited in space. Try Craigslist. I payed a 4th of retail by going that route

Ok I'm getting the media today. What do I use fist some pads then bio balls or the ceramic bio things and some charcoal ? Help

Which chamber Is for the skimmer?

I use purigen, chemipure and filter pads in the back of my biocube. :)

The skimmer should be in either the input compartment or the middle one. I'm not familiar with the setup you have so I'm not 100% sure how it all works.

Update I stared my tank, I added 40lb of live sand 35lb of live rock and it's coming out good. I added some pads biomax I don't know if I should add the chemi- pure yet. I also added like 3 cups of live sand in the refugium and one peace of live rock. No skimmer yet prob next week.

I had a question regarding the , when do I add the micro algae? I have the live sand and one piece off LR

My tank is set up in the back similar to yours. We had to pay our lfs to come set it up because we bought it used and had no clue. My protein skimmer is built in and is in the third of five chambers, right before the trickle filter section.

I have brown spots all over my sand bed and rocks. Why and from what

My ammonias between 0 and 0.25, my trites at 0 my trates at 20

The ammonia never got higher then it is now

Some pics of the spots

Diatoms most likely. They are a wonderful little treat that every new tank gets. LOL They will burn themselves out.

Do they happen after the cycle?

From what I have been told, it is a sign that your tank has almost completed it's cycle. My tank feel right in line with that. As Carey said, it will go away on its own and there is no need to do anything about it.

So the ammonia never got high it stayed at the highest between 0 and .25 can that happen my other tank got high and came down to 0 ?
