Diatoms

Ok I know there has been some posts about it but when the diatom starts taking over the glass in my tank how far along in the cycle is it and what should I do about it. Should I leave it? Clean it? Clean it then water change? I'm 2 1/2 weeks into the cycle and my water reads as follows...
Ammonia- .25
Nitrite- 2.0
Nitrate- 40 ppm

Let your cycle finish and only then begin with your regular water changes. It'll pass. No worries.

Ok so leave it in the glass?

I'd clean it off the glass, but not do the water change until you're done cycling.

So out of curiosity how long does it take for the diatoms to dissipate off the sand bed etc?
