High nitrates

HI all I have a problem that my river reef 94l tank has high nitrates they was up at 60 but I Can not get them any lower than 40. I placed a few snails in a couple of weeks ago, which i believed had died in transit and did not realise until a day or so later when they had not moved would this of caused my nitrates to increase ?? As there after i lost the rest of my snails. I have lr in main tank and also live rock in 2 of the back chambers of tank as advised from local store I also placed a purigen bag by intake at back last week. I have done a couple of 10/15% water changes over last two weeks but to no avail.other params are

Amm 0
Calc 400
Sg 1.025
I have a skimmer running in tank and my stock is two percula clowns
One flame back angel
One striped blenny
And some hermits crabs and couple of shrimps
I was feedin twice daily now cut this too once a day and removing any in un eaten flakes.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated I need to get snails back in there as algae is building up with out them.

No problems with fish crabs or shrimps

Still seems like you're overfeeding. I'd cut it to once every other day. Fish need a lot less food than you may realize.

94L is like 25ish gallons right? I'm guessing that's the size of your tank. If so, you are a little overstocked. That could be the main reason your having problems with trates. You are probably gonna have to do (once at normal levels) 2-3 water changes a week of at least 2-3 gallons with your stocking.

Thank for your replies I will try cutting back on feeding to every two days. I don't believe I am over stocked I have researched the stocking of this tank quite a bit and I have a lot less to many others and stocking should be 1 inch to every 2 gallons I believe in marine tanks which gives me ten inches of fish and I am no where near this at the moment and the angel and blenny are fully grown.

The inch to gallon rule isn't really accurate at all. I wouldnt put a 22 inch tang in a 40 gallon tank make sense? Those clown put out a ton of waste. Personally, I would have stopped with just those. But- its your preference- and everyone says something different. I'm not trying to be mean- just stating my opinion. Sorry
