Test Kit Question

For the color compare test kits, how do you hold the test tube to get the most accurate reading? It seems like holding the test tube right up against the white part of the card, and holding it just a tiny bit away causes quite a change in color. What do you do when trying to compare the colors?

Bonus Question: Are the Hanna Pocket Photometers worth getting? Accurate?

Hold it against the card in good lighting.

I've heard good things about the Hanna meters, but I have a hard time justifying the cost (and I'd probably still have the liquid test kits as a double check anyway).
