what are these?!

Got a matured tank from a friend and had these in a little basket in the tank... he forgot to take them out before he left.. he wanted them but left state lines so I suppose they are mine so id like to know exactly what they are? Coral skeletons? Rocks? Weird shapes and tinny little holes in most of them

It's a great biological filter. Make sure they are completely submerged in your sump in order for them to be most effective; think of them as a replacement for bio-balls.
 
It sure does! Keep it up and you'll have a very successful tank... not to mention you'll save a lot of money!
 
That's what I thought... the mojority off them are shapped like mini corols. They all have tiny tiny holes them in all... what else could these be used for?
