Hi!

Ive searched the internet and only come up with the results from when i asked this question before.

I have an amphiuma who enjoys burrowing.

He used to be in a black sand that has hard to dig in. I switched him to pool filter sand which seems to be a little easier to dig in.

But I'm still trying to find something less dense and more light, as it seems it takes alot of effort for him to burry himself.

I was thinking of washing some organic garden soil, but afraid it would be a mess.

Was thinking trying a playsand or maybe an aquarium planting soil, but im not sure how "diggable" or light these substrates are.

Please give me some input!!!

I would recommend pool filter sand over play sand. Play sand is very small-grained and compacts hard, which makes burrowing a little more of an effort.

Also, if you ever decide you want plants, plant roots have a harder time in very fine-grained sands.
