building levels

hi all:

well, I am still researching before I start filling my 58 G tank. It will be a fish and plant tank. I would like to be able to make levels at the bottom of the tank so that it doesn't look so flat. I haven't been able to find much discussion on the bets make way to create different levels, but I am sure many people do it.

Can anyone offer advice, links on how to set this up?

I am not sure how to do it, but with levels you would want to make sure you don't have dead spots of no water flow in the deeper sections.
