Nitrite spike during cycle

I found one lfs that gave us some gunk (sponge filter squeeze) a week and a half back. I pour it into my hob filter. It totally bypassed the ammonia phase and started with nitrites.

So 50+ percent at one time is ok?

Maybe you can ask them for some more... Yes, 50% (or more) is fine to do as is back to back big wcs to try & drop your nitrites lower. As long as you are temperature-matching & conditioning the water, everything will be fine & your fish will stay healthy.

Woot finally cycled. 0 nitrite 0 amm 15 nitrate. Thanks for the help.
