I don't have any sick fish at the moment. I feel like i should have a quarantine tank ready if one should get sick, or if i want to introduce new fish.

Can anyone give me tips on getting on set up? Is it something i should always have running?

A 20 gal. tank would be ideal with a HOB filter and heater. You could help cycle it with some gravel and filter material from your main tank. I keep mine running all the time with a few damsels to keep it going.

I use a 10g and keep the filter media in my sump so when I get new fish, I fill the 10 add a heater and put in the filter media and let it run. Works well for me.

I run an internal Fluval U2 filter in my 50g along with my canister filter.

I also have an old 10g tank from upgrading to my 50g.

When I need to, I just fill up my 10g with new water that's been treated and add in my U2 filter from the 50g then add my new purchase.

Once finished with I then run a 1-20 bleach to water solution through the filter before soaking in treated water then add it back to the 50g.
