Sorry I wasn't specific enough.

When I went to bed that night everything was fine. My Naso was a perfectly normal grey. When I got up the next morning and he was dead, he had black splotches on it, which I had heard was a sign of external poisoning (which is why i mentioned it).

I am not buying the ammonia story... the inverts would most likely be affected especially if the am was high enough to kill the fish. Inverts are usually much more sensitive than fish.

Can excessive DOC's and/or a clogged filter cause something like this?

yeah if they all died that quickly, I doub't that general water parameters ( amonia, nitrates, pH ) would have anything to do with it.

I would say your only real possibilites are either a heater malfunction, or the boxfish poisoning.

what type of heater are you using?

Since I don't have a skimmer, and probably don't clean my filter as much as I should, should I be worried about something like this, caused by excessive DOCs or filter clogging?
