We have a recordia that has been thriving in our aquarium for months. We got it as a single loose mushroom and shortly after putting it into the tank it adhered itself to a rock. It has been doing great, growing quite nicely. Recently we noticed a second mouth, or at least it appears that way, although its so close to the other one its hard to tell. Tonight we went in to look at the tank, and the ricordia was closed up and there was some brown secretion coming out of one of the mouths. Is this normal, and what can it be a sign of?

Sounds like it is expelling its zoanthalia (SP). Sign of stress. Its not a good thing. Have you added any new corals to your tank? How close is it to any neighboring corals? It could be reacting to some chemical warfare in your tank. I would do a water change and add fresh carbon ASAP.

Thanks for your help... i have no idea why it did that. Last night we looked again and it was open and looking great

Very possible. If it does that once in a while, its no biggie, but if its looking like its throwing up its intestins you have a problem. Do you have a pic?
