I don’t think the nitrates are your problem. Estimative Index fertiliser dosing sees people dosing 21-28ppm NO3 every week on top of what their tank naturally produces.
Could Oscars be more sensitive than the fish other people using EI dosing have? Yes but it is it any more likely? Probably not.
You’re doing everything right. If you use chlorine my first thought is leave your water change water overnight to remove the chlorine and water change without the conditioner. See if that makes a difference. Then I’d feed some natural foods like earth worms if you can get hold of some.

Well, I have actually transitioned to plan B after reading the above
[emoji51]and am now looking for a water filtration system, but thanks for the insights. I have also ordered some macro algae for the tank and the existing plants are doing well, so maybe eventually they will suck up all the NO3.
