new to community and need some help

Hi. I have just upgraded from a 30 to a 95 litre tank. I have mainly tetras (neon, harlequin and zebra), 3 mollIes, 2 guppies, 4 platties. firstly I want to know if I can have some more fish in it. But my main problem is that the last 2 days I have lost 3 fish, due to having their tails chewed off. I thought It was the mollies but no it seems to be the platties. I have just looked online and found out they all seem to be male. Is this a problem? Should I get some females? Why have they started doing it now as they have all been together for about 4 months!

I'm confused and upset. What should I do? What can I use to temporarily separate them as I only have a small fish net to catch then with and I have no car tomorrow so can't get out and I don't want to lose any more fish.

You could use a tank divider and separate the platties from the others.

To answer your first question, we have to know how many tetras you already have.

Male live bearers such as platys sometimes become aggressive when deprived of the company of females. However, you have to have a higher ratio of females to males or the aggression can become worse and they may just horndog the female to a premature death.

What is your PWC schedule?

Often times new aggression can be traced back to the other fish becoming unhealthy due to unclean water conditions, especially if they are in the early stages of fin rot.

mudracker asked some great questions. It would also be helpful to know if all these fish were bought at the same time as juveniles. If that is the case, sexual maturity has set in and you are seeing their true behavior.
This will not help right this second, but for the future, you need a quarantine tank or at the very least something like the floating guppy breeder to separate aggressive fish.
