These purple globs have been growing for a while now . They started off small but now I have a baseball sized colony on top of the sump pump along with some growing on the drain pipe out of the water . Also have them on the return line growing out of the tank . So I don't think they are sponges and I am tired of not knowing . Pics are the ones on the return . Thanks .

I had the same thing in my parents cube. Same deal, growing on the return lines along with the thermometer. Pulled it out, threw them in the fuge of my frag tank and they melted away. I'm curious as to what they are for sure, as I just assumed sponges.

Maybe some kind of weird algae? It seems to prefer higher light . There is a good amount of light in the sump for the algae scrubber and whatever this stuff is it is thriving in there . A pic of it on the drain to the right of the scrubber . At least I am not the only one who seen this stuff :) .thanks

Alright guess that what they are then . Thanks . I might try to grow them in the display see what happens .

looks like algae to me. How does it feel? Leafy, or sponge-like?

Actually feels like little bristles.just pulled it of the return . First pic is the top second the underside.

Lol so you think it is algae then ? Put that big chunk in my display and am going to try to get the big chunk out of the sump later on today .

Yeah, I know that stuff. It's an algae. It can be nice until it grows up and into coral. I haven't seen anything want to eat it either.

Btw Doug, I need to show you one of the red macros that is taking off in my tank. Might have to send it your way, it's amazing.

I haven't bought a new led panel yet so becoming a reef again isn't in the near future :( . Still if it is hard to get rid of maybe I should just try to contain it in the sump ? Thanks
