I bought this last night for 29.00 I thought it was cool but the people at the store had no idea what it was any ideas

Looks like a not so happy cynarina coral

Yeah. either a cynarina or a meat coral (acanthophyllia deshayesiana), that's in terrible shape. It can come back though...as long as there is flesh on it.
