This crab came in as a hitchiker. He seems not to bother the fish. In fact he is quite shy, therefore the dark picture.

Anybody know what he is?[/img]

He looks like an algae grazer by the flat tips on his claws. My LFS has several black "emerald mythrax" crabs in their coral tanks that aren't for sale. I'd just keep an eye on him. Although ok while small, most all crabs have the potential to become a nuisance when they get larger.

i would also say an algae grazer due to the flat tips on the pinchers. looks like a very dark emerald crab. does it have hairy back legs?

i cant say for sure but it sounds like an emerald crab. the hairy legs are another sign, but many crabs have hairy legs

I've left him alone because I suspected that he was an emerald crab, but his color is brownish black, so I was not sure if that was a color variation found in that species.
