I give up. LOL I am so new I don't even know the difference. :) I am trying to talk my wife into black ones but she wants Nimos. LOL I guess I will have to give in since this tank is a birthday present to her.

They look like Ocellaris clowns ,,commonly refeared to as "false" percs which really isn't an accurate name,,but anyway,,,true percs almost always have much thicker black bars surrounding the white ..Also there is a dorsal fin check you can do ,but still not a reliable way..
good link here,,
Percula Clownfish - Green Reefing

From what I have heard the True Percula has 10 spines in dorsal fin where false has 11.
Also read that a true Perculas (being reef caught) is sporned and hatched in close proximity to it's natural host anemones Heteractis Magnifica and Stichodactyla Gigantea and as larva learn the chemical signature of it's natural host therefore will take to it's host anemone naturally and may require the specific type it has genetically learnt to recognize.

Happy to say my LFS is getting a pair in for me this week :) straight from the Barrier Reef. Hard to get due to strong regulations of Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

Will post pics when they arrive.

so apart from looks what is the difference and if keeping more than 1 clown do they have to be the same. iv heard clowns can be aggresive
Getting them at the same time or close to it will help..Also if one is bigger than the other helps too..that way chances are the big one is female..
I was able to successfully introduce my large Maroon to my DT with a much smaller ocellaris and they are best buds,,the little guy is the maroons shadow

am i rightr in thinking if i have a mated pair of clowns like the ones in pic. that i cant have the black and white ones in the same tank or is this untrue

If you are asking if you can have two pairs, I would say no. But then I am a beginner and may have misunderstood. Anything more than two would be a risk unless it is a very large tank.

I think that it depends on a couple of things, tank size and whether there tank raised or wild caught and how they are introduced.

I have 1 mid size black and white tank raised clown which I had first, I got a large magnifca anemone which the black and white ignored. I then got a pair of wild caught clowns. The LFS said I should not put the new pair in tank with B&W or it will harass the new pair to death. I temporarily relocated the B&W to the refugium for 1 week, the wild caught clowns went straight for the anemone. After 1 week I put the B&W back I'm display tank and I don't have any issues, the B&W ignores the wild pair, the wild pair stay in there nem but are alert when the B&W swims passed. All is good though.
