Was gonna build a stand but ended up buying this dresser for $15. Feels solid but added a small piece of 2x4 in the back just in case. Does this look like it'll hold a 29 gallon aquarium; 400lbs? I stood on it and it doesn't bow but want to get some advice. Should I put a mat or something over the veneer top.

I would be cautious. For a few dollars more, you could purchase a trusted product designed for the weight. My other concerns would be its reaction when it gets wet (and it will) and can you be sure it is level for the tank.

Yeah I'm trying to be cautious. I had it filled with water when testing the aquarium for leaks and the water line was level. It didn't rock but I am concerned about water spills which I why I want to add some sort of waterproof mat underneath the aquarium so no water sits. Im still concerned about weight because It's gonna have about 50lbs of substrate. I might just jump on it and see how it holds up lol.

I personally would not do it. To much weight over the long haul. and as mentioned if it ever gets wet.

Doesn't look hardy to me. Agree with people above, better buy better stand.

Just have two roughly 200 pound guys jump on top and see if it's stable under load and after that kinda beating. If it's sturdily built, that should be no problem for it and it def won't go our under just the ambient equivalent weight if it didn't go out from jumping up and down.
