Hot glue is fine. People often times use it to attach plants and frags to whatever they need to. The only problem is that when once underwater the glue really sticks out so go easy on it.
I've used it to repair plastic and silk plants that have come out of their bases. No problems with fish and has held up for about five years and counting on the oldest one. Regular glue sticks from a craft store - nothing fancy.
