Hi all,
I am using a Sting-Ray FL-24 light and keeping it on around 7-8 hours a day. I currently have 3 Vallisneria spiralis plants and they are doing very well. I've only been using root tabs once I planted them. I started to use Seachem Excel and Flourish but stopped about a week ago due to my other tank being overrun with algae.

I recently noticed some small amounts of algae growing on the glass of my tank. I figured if there is enough excess nutrients for algae to grow another plant might help to fight the algae for food.

My question is, if I add a few more plants will they use up the nutrients that are still in the water that the algae is growing with?

Thank you,

Have you heard of or seen this happen or does this make sense.

Yep makes total sense!
Their is an excess amount of ferts and co2.
Normally 3 plants don't require that much stuff so thats why algae was using all the excess stuff this happens all the time.
This is very normal nothing to worry about it will fix itself with a little help over time.
