Mind your own bussuiness!
Well I have finaly decided to get the old tank running after over a year of it just taking space up in my room, it's a 8 liter nano dymax something or other. my plan is to get glosso and get shrimp although it sounds simple I know it wont be. Now the tank has been running before for about 3 months but that was last year since then it has been empty. I have added my substrate Dupla Duplarit G which sounds like a drug cocktail for plants. over that there is a layer of black gravel. I have some lava rocks and an 11W light which if my calculations are correct (unlikely, I'm 14) should be fine for the depth of the tank and the light requirements of glosso. I intend to get a carpet growing before I add shrimp which will be.....(please suggest when due to the tank being cycled before) I intend to add plants when the ph levels out from the new water so about 3 days with a powerful filter and some magic potions. Any advice is welcomed cheers.
-I would leave my identity but Mrs. Incredible told me it's my most prized possession

edit: OH- what are "magic potions"? for the most part, they are bad

Please keep posts focused on the topic presented by the OP, which FYI, was not age.

Oops my bad, hhm i think u should add somethin more than just glosso, like maybe 2 more plants to balance my twobits

I'd move this to the Invert forum.

Is this a Fluval Spec? It really looks and sounds like it.

Does it have a completed cycle now?

If so, get your plants in there and figure out your bottom setup?

In my opinion I would get some grasses in there. I'll have to look up your other suggestion, but I think two bushy column plants would be very cool.

As for the shrimp, I am working on my Fluval spec, too, you can check out the link in my sig.

One thing I want to touch on is that from my experience, these creatures need multiple levels of things to climb on, and something to break up the strong filter flow.

You'll want some kind of taller rock or drift wood, grasses or mosses for them to crawl through and eat micro particles on, some talllll column leaf or bushy plants which they can perch on and no floater plants for this tank.

I'd say you'd need a heater in the back, you can take off the water skimmer/output thing and stick any small "5g" heater in the back.

I'll be following along.

You could start with any neocardinia shrimp here. I think floating babies would do really well here, so low order breeder neocardinia would do ok.

it can be very fun to try to breed a blood red strain of RCS :)

Let me know if you need any other advice

Hhhmmmm maybe some semi tall plants, like crypts and tiger lotus. I dunno about tall plants, seem like they would take up to much space

I only just saw it I use my Ipod and it didn't show thanks for the advice, i was thinking grasses would be good as well but there are not very specialised shops around me so I have to deal with what I get

It is the same tank just a different name, ther is a heater in the back coloumn above the filter, i have never really liked driftwood but i'll get some tubes for the shrimp. Hopefully the glosso will thicken out real nice and reach the top of the rocks.

To be honest the glosso is a good idea, but you'll need some plants or to keep your stocking seriously minimal.

Jetajockey sells an awesome lowlight grass called blyxa. It reproduces quick for me, I replant and sell what I don't use too. He also sells a lot of lowlight plants and charges completely reasonable shipping. I was able to pick and choose what I wanted from a lowlight pack from him, some melted on my low light, but I overall picked what I really love and that's that.

I'd recommend something, a hornwort, pennywort, japonica, something columny. That'll increase the population you can keep.

I'll have a check when I get back from school

??? Sorry wasn't sure what you were aiming at ?
Just Glosso is fine. Stem plants can be a pain in a small tank.

Shrimp are low bioload so Glosso should be fine.

A small leaved stem I love is
Lindernia rotundifolia variegated
I'm growing this is my 5.5g

Leaves look like little watermelons.

My point :p sorry being so vauge, was that with a tall, rather than long, like the spec I have, it is beneficial to have multiple stem plants, it gives the shrimp more layers to explore, swim to, sleep and sit on.

Without them, I wouldnt keep more than 5 shrimp in my tank.

I think the glosso is great. I wish I could have done it lol.
