Feeding Cherry Shrimp

I just bought 8 cherry shrimp for my 5 gallon aquarium. I was having a mild algae problem but they've made relatively quick work and have cleared most of it. Do I need to add an algae wafer to feed them now even though there is still some algae or will they be fine continuing to consume the rest of the algae in the tank for the time being?

I have luck just throwing a pinch of whatever food I have on hand/is sitting next to the tank, I also have luck not feeding anything (in an aged tank -- algae + protein film), I also have luck using specific $$ shrimp foods, I also have luck letting them scavenge what the fish don't eat

I think you know where I'm going with this
