When using a water softner that contains potassium rather than the salt kind. I mix with tap water btw, is it better to use Calcium nitrate as opposed to potassium nitrate? I have been dosing nitrate with the dry ferts potassium nitrate, but am concerned I would be better off with calcium nitrate. What is the difference between these two? TIA

I understand thinking you have K, but do you believe you're short on Ca? I've never used CaNO3 personnaly, so I dunno.

I use DI water from the store. Lots of advantages, for one it can dissolve more fert since it's not filled with other stuff you find in tap water.

No I don't believe I am short on Ca but don't want to overdose potassium. I can't use DI water, I change about 250 gals per week.

I just meant use DI for mixing your ferts.

It's very hard to overdose K. I wouldn't worry about that.

The actual amount of K in KNO3 is very small as well.

I agree. Pretty much impossible to overdose Potassium, so unless you're trying to up your calcium dosing it really isn't necessary to switch.
