Fluval 304 not working

So I've had my fluval 304 for 4-5 yrs now. Just recently started barely blowing out water I took it apart replaced polishing pads that were dirty. I figured that was the prob but it back together and it started making grinding noises. Took it back apart and saw the impeller shaft was broke so I replaced it. Got all back together and still made noises. And hardly had any flow. Need help and or suggestions.

Sounds like the pump is running dry. Did you fill the tank with water, cover, then fill from the hose attachment before connecting the hoses and turning it on?

I always have unit full put hoses back on turn aquastop back on prime a few times then plug in and its always been good.
