Hi all,

I'm still fairly new to this, and would like to get the best out of my planted tank. Below are pictures of plants that I have bought. Would it be possible for any of you to identify them for me and possibly give any advice on care?

Thank you! - oh excuse the neon/ norman's lampeye which are obviously not camera shy and followed me around the tank!!!

What I can ID:

I think the last plant, that kinda looks like a palm, isn't aquatic. I've never seen an aquatic plant that looked like that.

The first is a type of crypt, not sure what kind because they all look similar to me ;) it might be crypt wendtii green.

The 5th is a type of val. Not sure what kind, and it doesn't really matter since they all require the same care.

The 3rd and 8th look like cabomba, the 6th us a sword I think. You also have a marimo algae ball.

What type of lighting/size tank? Swords get really huge, so be aware of that. If your plants need high light, and your tank does not offer that, they probably won't do well. So just always match the plants' light needs to the amount of light your fixture can put out.

Wow you're a genius :)

The tank is 80x35x50.3cm and the lighting is 2x 18w tropical reflector lamps?

Oh and the palm looking thing was in water when I bought it and it looked really healthy but has steadily turned brown so I guess it's time to remove it?

Well yeah it's not aquatic. Sellers will put nonaquatic plants underwater so that they look healthy, but after a while they rot and foul your water. You can try just keeping the foliage out if the water but keeping the stem in the water; it might do fine that way. I stick houseplants in my tanks with just the roots underwater and they do great. If you ever buy lucky bamboo, you need to do the same. It's leaves will rot underwater.

I have no idea what kind if light (low, med, high) you have, hopefully someone else will chime in.
