I have a 32Gallon tank with 2 Fluorescent bulbs of 20W each. I wanted to get moderate lighting plants, so thought about updating my lights.

Do I have to change both ? or can I change one and get away with it ?
Like, 1 is 20W and the other is 50W, or both need to be atleast 35+W each..?

fluorescent light wattage is determined by their length/bulb type. There is a slight amount of variance but it is negligible. That means that each fixture type has basically a set wattage for it.

So if you plan to upgrade in wattage you'll need a new fixture.

Oh, I'll just stick with Low Light Plants then ..

im pretty sure you cant use a 50 watt bulb with a 50 unless your ballast is 50 to begin with and with both 20 w on there your barley at 1.5 wpg(watts per gallon) wich would put you in low light level.....

if you want to go moderate(medium) light level i would upgrade to a t5ho 2x39 w .....but you will be on the border of needing c02 or not...

prob need to do pwc every week and no more than 8 hour of light....
