Is it possible to bed plants in sand or is there a special type of bedding?

What kind of plants are you talking about? Most plants would require some sort of fertilizer under the sand.

Sand works great. Alone, add root tabs. Or use Organic potting soil with sand cap.

Pool Filter Sand ( PFS)
Black Diamond Blasting Sand
CaribSea sand

I like black sand so I've used only black sands.

Hello Nemo.

I have moved your thread to our Planted Tank section. Hopefully you will get better responses here.

Most plants are relatively flexible when it comes to their substrate. While it is true that some substrates are better than others, almost all plants can be grown in cheap substrates, such as gravel or sand, as long as their other needs are met. Appropriate light and fertilization (if necessary) far outweigh the importance of a special substrate.

Hope this helps.

What kind of lighting and what kind of fertilizer do I use and wear can I find this stuff someone said I need a pool filter?
