i dosed seachems flourish according to the directions and a couple days later the broad leaves on my melon sword were turning brown, but some of it rubbed off. should i stop using seachems? i just want a general purpose plant food, i dont want to get real technical with plants at this time, but i want them to be healthy.

brown that rubes off is probably diatom algae, otos love it (if they fit your tank theme) other wise you can just keep rubbing it off, it should eventually go away after a few weeks or so... good luck

does that mean i should keep using seachems or maybe cut the dose?

The diatoms usually come with a new tank. They feed off silicates and disappear once the silicates are gone. The Flourish had nothing to do with it if it is diatoms.
