Could i put soil in the bottom of my aquarium and then put sand on top of that so it does not leak out into my aquarium? Would the plants grow well? Im asking because i originally had sand and my plants died.

I have personally used organic potting mix with good results.only downside was I used white sand, fish waste is glaring. Also diatom blooms but people suggest mineralizing to avoid it.
