would it be ok to set the airline from my diy CO2 bottles under the intake of my 306, so that the filter would diffuse the co2? what problems would/could this cause?

Many people do this successfully.

However, some people report gurgling noise inside the filter as the CO2 goes through the filter.

I had this problem with an eheim classic when I tried it.

CO2 can be corrosive and some say (and I believe it) that it can greatly shorten the life of your filter.

Have you considered an inline diffuser?

You can make your own or buy online. As close to 100% diffusion as possible.

I love mine.
