Hi. I've been all over the net checking out aquascapes involving driftwood as an important feature. I normally see tree names that I would not find at a local body of water. There are always fallen branches in a stream but, would these be safe after proper sanitation for an aquarium? What tree species are not likely to cause any bad changes in an aquarium's balance?

I would consider just purchasing some cured driftwood from your LFS. It is pretty involved hand picking drift wood out of the wild, and curing it to the point that it will be safe to add to the relatively tiny environment of an aquarium. It can involve months of soaking and boiling to get it right...

Im still soaking two large pieces since last spring. They are still floating a bit.

Grape vine will rot in your tank.

Someone recently posted a link to a nice article on wood for your aquarium. Try searching for it. I'll look for it when I get a chance.
