After long consideration on whether or not to buy java moss and get it to grow on the lava rocks in my goldfish tank, I've decided, no. I've had it in my tank before and it quickly turned into a salad. So I want to try what most hobbyists would consider absurd and stick Mermaid's Hair (cladophora algae) in my tank.
Sounds insane, right? Hear me out. It's a bare-bottom tank with only a few plants that I can won't mind tossing if it happens to take them over. The plan is to just have it covering the lava rocks and hope the goldfish will leave it alone.

Algae will quickly spread, and even though it may look nice it can turn your tank into a nightmare. If you want to clean it off of everything every now and then and you like the look of it, by all means go for it. I can't guarantee that it won't take everything over though lol.
